CurrentSCHIEx Provider Services
Participation in SCHIEx includes access to the following services:
- Master Patient Index (MPI): An index referencing all known patients in an area. SCHIEx has a state-level MPI.
- Record Locator Service (RLS): Manages a pointer system to the locations of patient data and accurately identifies and links the locations where available clinical information exists about a given patient. SCHIEx is built using federated architecture so the clinical information stays where the provider, organization or agency that controls the data maintains it.
- Terminology: Application of standard code sets to help ensure data retains its meaning when moving across participating health care providers. SCHIEx follows the Final Rule from the Office of the National Coordinator.
- Trusted Uniform Transport: Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate-based encryption and authentication: Information is encrypted (translated into a code to keep it secret) each time it moves from one SCHIEx participating provider location to another. Authentication methods prove that each provider has the proper identification and authorization to exchange information through SCHIEx.
- Audit/Log: Mechanisms to record and examine access and other activity in information systems. SCHIEx captures audit data for identity management and its core clinical data services, maintaining records regarding transport documents between SCHIEx Participants, the date, and time.
- SC DHEC Immunization Registry Exchange: Enables electronic reporting and exchange of immunization records with the DHEC Immunization Registry.
- Clinical Viewer: Provides an alternate display of external community records for providers who prefer this to the one offered by their native EMR.
- RX Hub Gateway: Provides access to the Surescripts/RxHUB Pharmacy Exchange. (Surescripts fees apply)
- Nationwide Health Information Network Gateway: Will provide access to the Federal Health Architecture enabling information exchange with federal agencies. (SCHIEx is currently in the application process for pilot participation.)
